CHECKSUMS / DATA INTEGRITY
MD5, SHA-256 & SHA-512 Hash Generator
Calculate hashes from UTF-8 text or local file content. All calculations run in this browser — your text and selected files are never uploaded.
Input source
File hashes use the exact file bytes, not its name. Large files may take time or exceed browser memory.
SHA-256 / SHA-512 use Web Crypto; MD5 uses a local JavaScript implementation.
Digest output
MD5
SHA-256
SHA-512
Hashes are hexadecimal digests.
Security guidance
MD5 is broken for collision resistance and should not be used for passwords, digital signatures or other security-sensitive purposes. Prefer SHA-256 or SHA-512 for general integrity checks, and password-specific KDFs such as Argon2id or scrypt for storing passwords. A checksum alone cannot prove a download came from a trusted publisher.
